Michael S. Loeffler practices in the area of insurance coverage, professional liability, employment, financial fraud investigation, estate planning matters, and commercial litigation. He represents domestic, London market, and international insurers and reinsurers in coverage litigation, coverage evaluation, and policy drafting related to financial institution bonds, errors and omissions, directors and officers insurance coverage, financial fraud, commercial general liability, employment practice liability, cash in transit, and personal accident, property, and life/health insurance matters.

Mr. Loeffler is frequently called on to investigate financial fraud matters. He has audited financial institutions around the world for security compliance, risk management, fraud issues, and money laundering procedures. He assisted the government of the Turks & Caicos Islands in its prosecution of the country’s first nondrug-related money laundering trial. He has also frequently worked with the FBI and Secret Service to investigate and prosecute financial fraud claims. Michael is an associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Mr. Loeffler’s practice also involves the defense of certain professionals, including attorneys, bank directors, accountants, real estate agents/brokers, insurance agents/brokers, adjusters, actuaries, architects, and engineers. He regularly handles matters relating to failed financial institutions, including claims against directors and officers or their insurers. He has also defended numerous class action lawsuits brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and is a frequent speaker and author regarding the FDCPA.

In addition, Mr. Loeffler is a National Football League Players Association Certified Contract Advisor and a Registered Athlete Agent in numerous states.

Mr. Loeffler received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in 1985. He received his undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Illinois in 1981. Mr. Loeffler is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Seventh and Tenth Circuits, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. District Court of Michigan, the U.S. District Court of Colorado, the U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois, and the Illinois Supreme Court.

Mr. Loeffler is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. He has been recognized by Chicago Lawyer Magazine as a Top Civil-Defense Related Lawyer and has been selected by his peers as a member of the Leading Lawyers Network for his work in insurance and reinsurance coverage and as a business lawyer.
